Biovail Unit Enters Guilty Plea In Kickbacks Case

Law360, New York (September 15, 2009, 6:28 PM EDT) -- Biovail Corp.'s pharmaceutical subsidiary has pled guilty to bribing doctors to prescribe its blood pressure drug Cardizem LA following an agreement to pay $24.6 million in criminal and civil fines to resolve the charges.

Biovail Pharmaceutical LLC, a New Jersey subsidiary of the Toronto-based pharmaceutical firm, pled guilty to conspiracy and kickback charges brought by the U.S. Department of Justice on Monday, and was sentenced to pay a $22,243,590 criminal fine.
