9th Circ. Speeds Up Gov't Appeal Of Family Detention Ruling

Law360 (December 4, 2019, 5:13 PM EST) -- The Ninth Circuit has agreed to fast-track the Trump administration’s appeal of a lower court order blocking the U.S. Department of Homeland Security from detaining migrant families together during their immigration court proceedings.

In a one-page order Tuesday, the appeals court granted the U.S. Department of Justice’s request to push up the briefing schedule after the federal government argued that a speedy appeal was necessary for it to tackle the high number of unaccompanied minors and families with children crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.
