N.Y. Supermarket Chain Charged With Sex Discrimination

Law360, New York (October 24, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A proposed class action lawsuit has been filed against Gristede’s supermarkets for allegedly channeling women into lower-paying, part-time jobs and failing to promote them to management positions.

The complaint, filed last Thursday by plaintiffs law firm Outten & Golden LLP, also accused Gristede’s of discriminating against women with respect to compensation, training, discipline and conditions of employment.

“It’s very obvious to anyone who walks into a Gristede’s store that the part-time cashiers are almost all woman and the managers are mostly men,” said lead plaintiffs’ attorney...
