Federal Circuit Reverses $46M Judgment Vs. Conair

Law360, New York (April 13, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal appeals court has reversed a $46 million judgment against Conair awarded by a German engineer who claimed the company infringed on his patent for a technology to prevent electrocution from use of a hair dryer.

“We hold that as a matter of law Dr. Gaus’s patent did not cover the Conair device, either literally or under the doctrine of equivalents, and we therefore reverse the judgment against Conair,” the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit said in its opinion.
