Teamsters Win 3rd Circ. Arbitration Award Fight With UPS

Law360 (July 16, 2020, 2:08 PM EDT) -- The Third Circuit ruled in a precedential opinion Thursday that an arbitration award a Teamsters union won against United Parcel Service must return to a New Jersey federal judge for confirmation, resolving a circuit split over whether district courts have jurisdiction over such awards when they're not disputed.

Handing a win to Local 177, a three-judge panel rejected UPS' argument that the Federal Arbitration Act requires that there must be a case or controversy over an award in order for a district court to get involved.
