FCC Kicks Off 3.5 GHz Band License Auction After Delays

Law360 (July 23, 2020, 10:00 PM EDT) -- The Federal Communications Commission on Thursday kicked off a much-anticipated auction of interference-protected spectrum licenses in the 3.5 GHz band that had previously been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai announced Thursday that bidding is now commencing and that the auction will offer a total of 22,631 priority access licenses to internet service providers across the country.

"5G is critical to America's global economic and technological leadership, and the start of the 3.5 GHz auction today is a key milestone in our work advancing this national priority," Pai said in a statement.
