Subpoenas Nixed, Punitive Claim OK In Allianz Suit

Law360, New York (October 23, 2009, 5:30 PM EDT) -- Allianz Life Insurance Co. of North America has lost a bid to decertify a punitive damages claim against it, but the insurer prevailed in its struggle to keep eight of its current and former employees off the stand in an upcoming fraud trial.

Judge Janis L. Sammartino issued several rulings Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California as the lawsuit, which accuses Allianz of falsely marketing “bonus” deferred annuities policies to senior citizens, gets ready for trial in late March 2010....
