LinkedIn Says 9th Circ. Qualcomm Ruling OKs Bot Block

By Mike LaSusa (August 18, 2020, 7:26 PM EDT) -- LinkedIn Inc. has urged a California federal court to consider a recent Ninth Circuit decision in a Federal Trade Commission antitrust case against Qualcomm, saying the ruling backs up the professional networking site's argument that it has no duty to let rival startup hiQ use automated bots to scrape its data.

In a Monday filing, LinkedIn pointed to the part of the Aug. 11 appellate opinion where the panel discusses liability under the federal antitrust laws for a company's refusal to deal with a competitor.

In that section, LinkedIn said, the Ninth Circuit found that there is generally no antitrust duty...
