EU Drops Qualcomm Investigation

Law360, New York (November 24, 2009, 1:02 PM EST) -- The European Union's antitrust watchdog announced Tuesday that it had closed its investigation against wireless chipset manufacturer Qualcomm Inc.

The European Commission said in a statement that all complainants in the investigation, opened in October 2007, had withdrawn or indicated their intention to withdraw their complaints, and that it did not consider it appropriate to invest further resources in the case.

The investigation concerned whether Qualcomm had been charging unreasonably high royalties since its patented chipset technology became part of Europe's 3G standard. The EC said...
