9th Circ. Orders Porn Co. To Pay Back Copyright Defendant

By Bill Donahue (March 19, 2021, 2:32 PM EDT) -- The Ninth Circuit says that Strike 3 Holdings — a porn studio that has filed thousands of copyright lawsuits — must pay the legal bills incurred by one internet user who beat the company's accusations.

Affirming a lower court decision that labeled such litigation "extortive," the appeals court ruled Thursday that Strike 3 must repay more than $40,000 spent by an anonymous defendant who ultimately won a ruling of non-infringement.
