Netflix, Blockbuster Win E-Mail Notification Patent Spat

Law360, New York (December 3, 2009, 2:38 PM EST) -- Netflix Inc. and Blockbuster Inc. — the two remaining defendants in a suit brought by Media Queue LLC over a patented method of notifying customers by e-mail about the status of their DVD rental accounts — have won their bid for summary judgment of noninfringement.

Judge Susan Illston of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on Tuesday agreed with Netflix and Blockbuster's assertion that their subscriber-authorized method of queue replenishment, along with Netflix's subscriber-approved DVD rental notification process, do not infringe U.S....
