Ecuador Seeks To Block Chevron Arbitration Bid

Law360, New York (December 4, 2009, 4:52 PM EST) -- The government of Ecuador has launched a lawsuit in U.S. court in an attempt to block Chevron Corp. from forcing an international arbitration proceeding that would allow it to short-circuit $27 billion in pollution claims related to alleged environmental damages in the Amazon.

The lawsuit, filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, seeks an order and judgment enjoining the oil giant from pursuing its arbitration proceeding in the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague.
