Record Cos. Lose Copyright Suit Against Baidu.com

Law360 (November 20, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a blow to the music industry, a group of leading international record companies has lost a lawsuit that accused Baidu.com, China's largest Internet search engine, of facilitating illegal downloads of copyrighted music.

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry represented seven companies – including the EMI Group, Sony BMG Music Entertainment and the Universal Music Group – in the suit, filed with the Beijing Intermediate Court last year.
