2 US Cos. Face Penalties For Export License Violations

Law360, New York (December 22, 2009, 12:10 PM EST) -- U.S. companies Keithley Instruments International Corp. and Tara Technologies Corp. have agreed to pay penalties for exporting controlled items to India and China, respectively, without the proper authorization.

The U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security made the settlements public Monday. Keithley will pay a $125,000 civil penalty, while Tara faces a $27,000 fine.

According to BIS, Keithley intentionally violated the Export Administration Regulations in 2003 by conspiring to ship classified electronics items to Vikram Sarabhai Space Center, an Indian research center on Commerce's...
