Cipriani Waitstaff Sue Over Unshared Service Charges

Law360, New York (December 22, 2009, 4:18 PM EST) -- Casting a pall over famed restaurateur Giuseppe Cipriani’s holiday season, a group of current and former waitstaff has filed a putative class action accusing Cipriani’s event and catering business of unlawfully pocketing sizable service charges that belong to event workers.

The complaint, lodged Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, alleges the Cipriani empire violates federal and state labor laws by withholding service charges and denying its servers and bartenders wages earned while catering lavish events.
