Organic Shingle Settlement Class Gets Initial OK

Law360, New York (January 4, 2010, 2:56 PM EST) -- A federal judge has granted preliminary approval to what could be a $600 million settlement of product liability claims filed by homeowners who bought organic roof shingles from CertainTeed Corp. that allegedly cracked and failed prematurely.

Judge Louis H. Pollak of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on Dec. 29 set a June 8 hearing to finalize a deal reached Dec. 15 between named plaintiffs Catherine Barrett, Roger Dunker and Sherwood Wolfson and the Valley Forge, Pa.-based building products company.
