Ga. Judges Deny LG Chem's Bid To End Faulty Battery Case

By Rosie Manins (September 16, 2021, 9:37 PM EDT) -- South Korean manufacturer LG Chem Ltd. can't escape the jurisdiction of a Georgia state court in an exploding battery case because it directs its products into the Peach State's stream of commerce, the Georgia Court of Appeals ruled on Thursday.

A three-judge appellate panel affirmed a state trial court's denial of LG Chem's motion to dismiss the case by Georgia resident Cameron Lemmerman on the grounds that it lacks personal jurisdiction in Georgia. The ruling is believed to be the first from a Georgia state appellate court on LG Chem's personal jurisdiction in exploding battery cases.
