Law360, New York (January 22, 2010, 2:49 PM EST) -- Once reputed to litigate long past the point when other companies would have settled, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has shifted its legal strategy and paid out millions to settle labor cases over the past year.

Wal-Mart declined to comment on what suddenly caused one of the U.S.' largest employers to decide that settling labor suits was in its best interest, but experts said the company's change in litigation strategy stemmed from a series of big losses, changes in Washington and a desire to staunch the negative publicity...
