Tyco Settles Syringe Disposer Antitrust Suit For $33M

Law360, New York (January 19, 2010, 3:48 PM EST) -- A Louisiana hospital has asked a federal judge to approve a $32.5 million cash settlement in a class action claiming Tyco International Ltd. and a former Tyco subsidiary now owned by Covidien violated antitrust laws by forcing purchasers of needle disposers into exclusionary agreements.

Natchitoches Parish Hospital Service District's motion, filed Friday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, asks Judge Patti B. Saris to put an end to the four-year-old Sherman Act and Clayton Act case involving so-called sharps containers.
