EU Signs Off On $5B Liberty-Unitymedia Merger

Law360, New York (January 26, 2010, 12:09 PM EST) -- European competition authorities have cleared Liberty Global Europe Holding BV’s $5 billion purchase of German cable network operator Unitymedia GmbH, concluding that the merger would not significantly limit competition.

The European Commission said Monday that it had examined the potential impact of the deal on the markets for licensing of broadcasting rights and pay TV channels in German-speaking countries, as well as the markets for pay TV, voice telephony, broadband Internet access and bundled services in Germany.
