Chinese Court Hands Baidu Win In File-Sharing Fight

Law360, New York (January 26, 2010, 7:03 PM EST) -- In a setback for major recording companies, a Chinese court has reportedly sided with China’s biggest search engine Baidu that it did not violate copyrights by showing links to pirated music.

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, the music industry lobbyist that initiated the suit on behalf of Universal Music Group and others, said Tuesday a Chinese court cleared Baidu from allegations that it displayed “deep links” to hundreds of thousands of infringing tracks on third-party Web sites, according to a report by Reuters....
