Judge Urges $6.6M In Usenet File-Sharing Damages

Law360, New York (February 2, 2010, 3:36 PM EST) -- A magistrate judge has recommended that bankrupt Internet message board operator Usenet.com Inc. pay $6.6 million in damages to several major record labels — including Capitol Records LLC, Arista Records LLC and others — for alleged copyright infringement through music file-sharing.

Magistrate Judge Theodore H. Katz of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on Monday recommended that Judge Harold Baer Jr. enter a default judgment jointly and severally against the provider, Sierra Corporate Design Inc. and Gerald Reynolds for statutory damages...
