Commission Launches Probe Into Universal-BMG Deal

Law360, New York (December 8, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- The European Commission has opened an investigation into Universal Music Group’s bid to take over BMG’s music publishing business, postponing a decision on the deal until next year.

E.U. regulators said Friday that Universal’s $2.1 billion bid could put a damper on competition in the music industry, and that the Commission will not rule on the proposed transaction until April 27, 2007.
