Ecuador Combats Chevron Arbitration Bid

Law360, New York (February 10, 2010, 4:42 PM EST) -- The government of Ecuador wants to halt Chevron Corp.’s international arbitration proceeding while a U.S. district court decides if the oil giant is entitled to sidestep a $27 billion Ecuadorean suit against it for vast pollution in the Amazon.

The motion for preliminary injunction, filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, seeks to bar Chevron from continuing the arbitration in the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague and pressing ahead with related discovery actions until the court has...
