Accusations Fly Over Contraceptive Patch

Law360, New York (December 12, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- The legal woes keep piling up for Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical Co. The manufacturer of the popular birth-control patch was back in court Tuesday to face a wrongful death lawsuit brought by a 26-year-old woman and a mass action brought on behalf of 55 women who claim the contraceptive caused blood clots and other serious illnesses.

The two lawsuits, filed in San Francisco Superior Court on Tuesday, were brought by Kabateck Brown Kellner LLP, which already represents more than 450 plaintiffs nationwide in similar suits over Ortho Evra,...
