Apple, RIM, Others Sued Over Smartphone Patents

Law360, New York (March 4, 2010, 1:08 PM EST) -- SmartPhone Technologies LLC has accused about a dozen major cell phone manufacturers — including Research In Motion Ltd., Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., Apple Inc. and Motorola Inc. — of infringing several communications and Bluetooth patents through their smartphone devices.

Frisco, Texas-based SmartPhone filed suit Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, alleging that the defendants are infringing seven of its patents, all of which relate to communications technology used in cell phones.
