USG&E Name Change In NY Blocked For Now

Law360, New York (March 22, 2010, 3:47 PM EDT) -- A federal judge has temporarily enjoined U.S. Gas & Electric Inc. from using a new regional brand name that New York State Electric & Gas Corp. alleges infringes its trademarks.

Judge David Larimer of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York ruled Friday that USG&E's rebranding as New York Gas & Electric, or NYG&E, in the Empire State could plausibly cause consumer confusion, granting the plaintiff's motion for a preliminary injunction.
