Whither The SEC? For Now, No Place New

Law360, New York (April 15, 2010, 1:33 PM EDT) -- Two weeks ago, the proposed financial industry reform legislation was unveiled by Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn.

It is clearly starting its journey on the U.S. Senate floor as a compromise effort, which seeks support from the bureaucracy and some Republicans. To the extent there was a potential turf war which would reduce the authority of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the SEC apparently has emerged unscathed.

During the pre-release public debate on the proposed reform legislation, I do not recall a suggestion by the SEC...
