Pilgrim's Pride Strikes $10M Deal In FLSA Suit

By Brendan Pierson (April 6, 2010, 1:02 PM EDT) -- Poultry company Pilgrim's Pride Corp. will pay $10 million to settle a class action accusing it of failing to pay overtime to about 8,400 employees in 11 states, a deal plaintiffs' attorneys say will allow class members to recover about 85 percent of the back pay they sought.

Judge Harry F. Barnes of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Arkansas signed off on the settlement Friday, finding it "fair, reasonable and allowable" under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

According to the plaintiffs' motion to approve the settlement, filed March 31, $687,045.19 will be set aside for litigation expenses...
