Georgia-Pacific Decries $1.4B Lyondell-EPA Pact

Law360, New York (April 12, 2010, 2:57 PM EDT) -- Georgia-Pacific LLC has blown the whistle on Lyondell Chemical Co.’s multibillion-dollar environmental settlement with the U.S. government, claiming the expedited agreement flouts mandatory review periods and burdens the paper manufacturer with the cleanup of a Michigan Superfund site.

Georgia-Pacific urged Judge Robert E. Gerber of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York to reject the proposed agreement, which settles $5.5 billion in environmental claims, and to extend the abbreviated comment period to meet federal requirements.
