U.K. Seeks Public Comment On BSkyB, ITV Deal

Law360, New York (January 12, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- The United Kingdom’s Office of Fair Trade has asked for public comment to help it determine whether the British Sky Broadcasting Group’s acquisition of ITV shares should be considered a merger, and will negatively affect competition in the U.K. television market.

The OFT has been trying to determine whether it has jurisdiction to investigate BSkyB, and whether BSkyB gained “material influence” over ITV after acquiring 696 shares of ITV, the U.K.’s largest commercial broadcaster, in November.
