Universal, Redbox Strike Deal In Antitrust Suit

Law360, New York (April 22, 2010, 5:45 PM EDT) -- Universal Studios Home Entertainment LLC and DVD kiosk operator Redbox Automated Retail LLC announced Thursday they have reached a distribution agreement, settling Redbox's lawsuit accusing Universal of trying to abuse its market power to force Redbox into a revenue-sharing agreement.

The deal allows Redbox to rent Universal DVDs and Blu-Ray discs starting four weeks after their release, according to the companies — a compromise between the 45-day waiting period Universal originally demanded and Redbox's previous practice of renting movies as soon as they were released....
