Federal Circuit Axes "Smart Card" Suit Against Visa

Law360 (January 16, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- In yet another setback for patent-holding company E-Pass Technologies Inc., a federal appeals court has cleared Visa International and other technology companies of charges of infringing patents for “smart-card” technology.

The Jan. 12 decision issued the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit affirmed a summary judgment on noninfringement issued earlier in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
