Tannery Owner Off Hook For Ex-Operators' Pollution

Law360, New York (May 12, 2010, 3:12 PM EDT) -- A federal judge has ruled that a Missouri tannery owner isn't liable for actions taken by previous operators of the facility, in a pair of class actions alleging the tannery's toxic chemical byproducts ruined nearby farmland and caused cancer.

Judge Gary A. Fenner on Tuesday granted in part and denied in part the two summary judgment motions that National Beef Leathers LLC, the current tannery owner, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri.
