Shell Appeals Decision Certifying MTBE Class

Law360, New York (January 22, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Shell Oil Co. on Monday appealed a federal court's decision to certify a class of property owners who sued the oil giant over a toxic chemical leak that allegedly contaminated Chicago-area wells.

The decision to certify the class was issued Jan. 3 by Judge Shira A. Scheindlin in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Shell appealed the decision to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
