Lafarge Hit With Class Action Over US.-Made Drywall

Law360, New York (May 18, 2010, 4:18 PM EDT) -- Construction company Lafarge North America Inc. has been hit with a putative class action alleging its U.S.-manufactured drywall emits sulfide gases that corrode household appliances and wiring, much like the Chinese-made drywall that has been the subject of multidistrict litigation.

The lawsuit, filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi, also alleged the gases cause health hazards and create unpleasant odors of rotten eggs. It asks for damages, as well as medical and environmental monitoring.
