BP Ordered To Use Less Toxic Oil Dispersant In Gulf

Law360, New York (May 20, 2010, 3:58 PM EDT) -- Days after granting BP PLC permission to use the dispersant Corexit to break up oil streaming from a massive well leak in the Gulf of Mexico, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency told the company Thursday to choose a different, less toxic chemical within 24 hours.

The EPA told BP to identify a more effective and less potent alternative from the agency's list of authorized dispersants by Friday, and to start using that product within 72 hours.
