CPSC Blames Chinese Cos. For Defective Drywall

Law360, New York (May 25, 2010, 3:47 PM EDT) -- Nearly all the defective drywall that has caused personal injury and corroded electrical wiring in homes throughout the U.S. was manufactured in China, government officials said Tuesday.

The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, which performed testing for the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, found that the 10 most reactive sulfur-emitting drywall samples were all produced in China, according to the CPSC.

In fact, some of the Chinese drywall had emission rates of hydrogen sulfide 100 times greater than non-Chinese drywall samples, the agency added.
