Pfizer's Painkiller Class Action Grows

Law360, New York (January 30, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Complaints against drug manufacturer Pfizer over its now-shelved painkiller Bextra continue to grow, with yet another lawsuit this week joining the class action.

The product liability suit, filed in the U.S. District Court of Minnesota, joins the thirty actions across the country consolidated by a federal judicial panel in September 2005.

A Food and Drug Administration panel ruled in February 2005 that Pfizer’s anti-inflammatory drugs, Bextra and Celebrex, along with Merck’s Vioxx, posed an increased risk of heart damage, but stopped short of pulling the drugs...
