Skadden Reps AkzoNobel In $1.3B Nat'l Starch Buy

Law360, New York (June 21, 2010, 12:24 PM EDT) -- Corn refiner and ingredient giant Corn Products International Inc. said Monday that it had bought Akzo Nobel NV's National Starch unit for $1.3 billion, creating what Corn Products officials said would be a fast-growing global ingredient behemoth with as much as $5 billion in revenue potential.

Westchester, Ill.-based Corn Products will pick up the New Jersey-based specialty and modified starch manufacturer for $1.3 billion in cash and the assumption of certain pension and employee benefit liabilities, according to the companies.
