NY Passes 1st Domestic Worker Protection Law

Law360, New York (July 2, 2010, 1:48 PM EDT) -- The New York Legislature has passed a bill that will make the state the first in the nation to give nannies, housekeepers and other domestic workers certain workplace rights, including paid days off, overtime and protection from discrimination.

The legislation passed Thursday in the State Senate by a 35-26 vote, and it passed the State Assembly that same day by a 90-38 vote. It then moved to Gov. David Paterson, who said he would sign it into law.
