Sanyo Dropped From SmartPhone's Patent Suit

Law360, New York (July 12, 2010, 6:11 PM EDT) -- SmartPhone Technologies LLC has dropped Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd. from a lawsuit accusing nearly a dozen major cell phone manufacturers of infringing several patents covering communications technology used in smartphones.

Judge Leonard Davis of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas approved the voluntary dismissal without prejudice Monday, with each side agreeing to pay its own costs.

SmartPhone and Sanyo stipulated to the dismissal Friday, giving no reason. An attorney for Sanyo declined to comment on the dismissal, and an attorney for SmartPhone...
