Cuomo Probes Predatory Health Care Lending Claims

Law360, New York (August 4, 2010, 6:18 PM EDT) -- New York Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo announced Wednesday that his office was launching an industrywide investigation into claims that companies issuing health care credit cards duped consumers into using their cards and offered health care providers kickbacks for increasing charges.

Cuomo has sent out a number of subpoenas to health care providers, companies managing health care credit cards and medical associations that have endorsed them, seeking information about how the cards are marketed, sold and used and how providers are compensated for endorsing the cards,...
