Securities Litigation Trends: Health Care

Law360, New York (February 14, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- The ouster of UnitedHealth Group Inc.’s chief executive due to stock options backdating, and the subsequent shareholder lawsuits, marred an otherwise uneventful year for securities litigation filings, according to our survey of the largest 50 health care companies.

The lull in securities litigation filings in the health care industry could be attributed to timing. An uptick in health care securities suits usually precludes presidential elections, when issues like Medicaid and Medicare become hot button topics, a lawyer with a major firm said.
