GOP Sens. Demand Info About Sprint-Huawei Deal

Law360, New York (August 23, 2010, 5:15 PM EDT) -- Citing national security concerns, eight Republican senators are demanding information from government officials about a bid by Chinese telecommunications company Huawei Technologies to supply equipment to Sprint Nextel Corp.

In a letter Thursday addressed to the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Department of Commerce and intelligence officials, the senators asked whether the government is helping negotiate the deal and if Huawei poses a national security threat.

The senators also raised questions about the company's alleged connections with regimes in Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and China.
