Microsoft Sued Over Internet Communication Patents

Law360 (February 20, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- A California-based software company has sued Microsoft Corp. in eastern Texas, accusing the software giant of infringing two patents relating to secure Internet communication.

The suit, filed by VirnetX Inc. on Thursday, names Microsoft as the sole defendant.

The patents at issue in the suit, which concern virtual private network technology, are U.S. Patent Numbers 6,502,135 B1 and 6,839,759 B2.

The ‘135 patent, called “agile network protocol for secure communications with assured system availability,” deals with a method of establishing a secure communication link.
