Jury Rules Microsoft To Pay $1.5B

Law360, New York (February 22, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- The largest damages amount in a patent case was awarded Thursday when a San Diego jury found that Microsoft Corp. infringed on patents held by Alcatel-Lucent and should pay over $1.5 billion to its rival.

After a few days of deliberation, the jury in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California found that Alcatel-Lucent had proved that Microsoft’s Windows Media Player infringed on two patents held by Alcatel-Lucent.
