Denali Commission Can't Take Conditional Grants: GAO

Law360, New York (September 13, 2010, 3:20 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Government Accountability Office has ruled that independent federal agency the Denali Commission should not have taken approximately $1.58 million in grant funds from Alaska, saying the money constituted a conditional gift outside the commission's gift acceptance authority.

The GAO ruling, handed down Sept. 1, came in response to a request from the Denali Commission's inspector general, who had asked the GAO to determine whether the commission could legally accept grant funds from the state of Alaska.
