9th Circ. Upholds Chevron Win In Protester Killing Case

Law360, New York (September 10, 2010, 6:30 PM EDT) -- A federal appeals court has upheld a jury's verdict against a group of Nigerians who alleged Chevron Corp. was liable for a fatal standoff between the Nigerian military and demonstrators protesting the oil company's hiring practices.

A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit said Friday that Judge Susan Illston of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California did not err when instructing the jury and did not abuse her discretion when excluding some evidence in the case....
