Union Hits Alliant Energy With ERISA Class Action

Law360 (February 26, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- A union representing Alliant Energy Corp. workers has filed a proposed class action lawsuit, accusing the gas and electric utility of violating federal law and a collective bargaining contract by raising retiree health premiums to more than what current workers pay.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 965 and several retirees filed the suit on Feb. 22 against Alliant and its subsidiary, Wisconsin Power and Light Co., for raising the health and dental premiums of early retirees.
